Termites Removal and Extermination in Myanmar

Subterranean Termites (commonly referred to as white ants) are found most often in warmer climates which makes Myanmar an ideal environment for them. Often considered the most economically destructive pest, preventative measures are necessary.

Primarily feeding on cellulose materials (wood, paper etc.) they can cause severe damage to any timber-based buildings and any other wooden goods. If not taken care of in a timely manner, termite damage can cause structural collapse to buildings, plantations and much more. In 2015 alone, termites caused global damages of up to 40 Billion USD. With climate change, this number is expected to grow over time.

Even though the termites themselves are very small creatures, their teeth can cut through wood. Anything made of wood or dead plants can become their next victim. Wooden furniture, houses, books; it doesn't matter. As long as it's made of dead trees and plants, termites feed on it.

Termite Infestation Indicators

Noise
Termites workers breaking down wood, will create a very mild clicking noise. This can occur even if visually wooden materials appear undamaged from the outside.

Damaged Wood
Damaged wood or (parts of) wood suddenly falling apart are a strong sign of termite presence.

Droppings & Wings
Termite leave droppings which resemble sand-like wooden shavings Similarly, Termite Alates will leave their wings behind when they are exploring to establish a nest indoors. Encountering these around the house is a clear sign that something is wrong.

External Nests
Their nests can often be found in the shape of a mound in the landscape of buildings. They may similarly be found at the base of a tree or even on the upper parts. It is useful to double check trees around the premise.

Mud Tunnels
Termites move around in tunnels made of mud. They build these tunnels from their underground colony into your home and to their feeding grounds.

Termite Species

Though there are 100s of species, they are subcategorised into different genuses including:

  • Coptotermes

  • Macrotermes

  • Microcerotermes
